Restoring the Ocean’s Health One Mission at a Time

About Us

The Mission Resolve Foundation was established by Joe Farrell, Jr., CEO and founder of Resolve Marine, a global leader in ship salvage, rescue, and ocean environmental response.

From an early age, Farrell had a deep passion for the ocean. Growing up in a water neighborhood in Houghes Neck, Quincy, he spent his summers working at a small boat livery, where he learned the basics of working on the water under the mentorship of his first boss, Walter Hurley.

Although his aspirations of joining the US Navy Underwater Demolition Teams/Navy Seals were crushed at age 18 due to a deviated septum, Farrell went on to join the US Coast Guard and volunteered for duty in the Vietnam War. He trained as a diesel engineer and diver, serving aboard the USCG Cutter Southwind and as an advisor overseeing the offloading of ships on the Saigon River and off the coast of Qui Nohn.

After his military service, Joe took a job open only to ex-military divers with secret clearances and spent four years in the Bahamas at the US Navy's Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Weapons Range. His job involved recovering submarine-launched nuclear-armed capable war exercise torpedoes, a role that put his life on the line multiple times. Despite facing near-death experiences, Joe was fortunate to return to his family.

With his experience and expertise in maritime operations, Joe went on to found Resolve Marine, a company specializing in ship salvage, rescue, and ocean environmental response. Throughout his 40 years at the helm of Resolve Marine, Farrell pursued numerous philanthropic initiatives, oftentimes directed at humanitarian aid following maritime disasters. Farrell soon recognized the need for a more formal approach to philanthropy and founded the non-profit Mission Resolve Foundation.

Joe's personal mission and his company's mission of leaving the world a better place is the inspiration for the Mission Resolve Foundation. His passion for the ocean and his experiences throughout his career have shaped his commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
