Born and bred in Central Africa and schooled in Scotland, Ian joined the Royal Navy straight from school. A full, fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable career saw him sail most of the oceans and seas: ashore he has been based in the UK, Italy and Hong Kong. A Master Mariner, his career focus has been at sea, commanding ships and submarines, and latterly in the commercial world, he has managed shipping companies in West Africa, the Middle East and Indian Oceans.
Thoroughly enjoying a multicultural, multinational career in and around the globe’s ocean’s, the greatest and single disappointment has been witness to the deterioration of the ocean’s health. Pollution is simply poisonous.

Throughout his career, Ian has worked with some of the world’s finest ocean and marine research centers, from Woods Hole in Monterey CA, to the Marine Biological Association in the UK. Ian was therefore flattered and honoured to be invited to join the Mission Resolve project.
Ian’s focus will be on the fleet, and initially HERV Lana Rose, whose deployments will be supporting and sometimes leading projects which are designed to right the wrongs in the oceans. Our role is to help make the oceans better, a sustainable and safer place for all.
